I’m going to need Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy to write books forever and ever, because oh my goodness! These two ladies just don’t know how to pen a bad book. I loved Good Boy earlier this year, and Stay was consequently one of my most anticipated books of the year. I didn’t think it was quite possible for me to love the book more than I loved Good Boy, but I 100% did. I love how these two continue to deliver stories with lovable characters, and the swooniest of romances.
As you can probably guess from my title, one of the reasons I loved this book was because of the hero. These past few weeks, I have been reading books about single dads, and man, I have a feeling it’s slowly becoming a favorite trope. Anyways, Matt, is a recently divorced dad to two adorable twins in Stay, and he totally got my groove going. He was a really swoony guy, and I especially found myself loving him during his scenes with his daughters. Here was this big, sexy hockey player, who was completely at the mercy of these toddlers. GOOD-FUCKING-BYE, ovaries! His love and devotion for them was so pure, and ugh, I CAN’T HANDLE all this swoony goodness. It was almost too much! Then add to that, a guy who was actually a complete sweetheart, and who chased and worshipped the ground that his love interest walked on? You can’t tell me you aren’t already in love with him from my description of him? The heroine, Haley, was also fantastic. She was very smart, hardworking and goal-oriented. She was also a little bit quirky, and had very much of a lovable personality. I especially adored how nervous and fangirly she got around Matt, and how sweet she was to his daughters.
Individually they were fantastic, but as a couple, they were so much better. There was lots of flirty goodness between them from the start. I loved their texts relationship at the beginning, and the banter between the two was pure delight. The romance between them was slow, but they had intense chemistry together that made the slow progression really worth it. Their friendship and comfort level really made the book enjoyable, and I absolutely loved how Matt continued to pursue Hailey throughout the book, without invading her personal space or being creepy. He just convinces her that she is the one for him and vice versa. Another thing I’ve been loving about Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy’s latest books is how free of drama the romances are. The typical misunderstanding you know you’ll find in any romance book isn’t convoluted or over the top and I just love that. There’s also some fun moments with the secondary characters that fans of the series will love. Blake, Matt’s teammate, continues to crack me up with how ridiculous he is. I also loved how quickly the WAGs (wives and girlfriends) of the hockey team accepted Hailey into their midst, and proved to be awesome friends to her. We also get a glimpse at who the next potential couple could be and omg, I need it to happen!
Stay was a hit for me. Everything about the story clicked with me, and I know I’m going to be re-reading this one again at some point this year. I loved these characters. I love the romance. And I just love the magic that is Elle Kennedy and Sarina Bowen. Romance fans should not hesitate one bit to pick up Stay and other reads by both these authors!
