She wanted a one-night stand…and then he moved in next door.

Paige Bennett is more than content with her life and what she does—and does not—have in it. She’s got a supportive family, a great apartment, and the best friend a girl could ask for; so what if her relationships expire faster than a carton of milk? After a disastrous detour courtesy of poor judgment in the boyfriend department, her plan is back on track and her dream job is finally within her grasp. Nothing can make her lose focus now. Well, nothing except the one-night stand she had with her best friend’s surrogate brother. The one-night stand she can’t stop thinking about.

Adam Reid has always been reliable…the responsible son, the loyal friend, the steady boyfriend. Two years ago, he graduated Magna Cum Laude and is well on his way to making a name for himself at an accounting firm in Denver—a far cry from working as a helper in the Mom and Pop store his parents own in Michigan. But when said store starts failing, he’s the only one who can step in and help. So reliable Adam does what he always does, and he comes to the rescue.

Paige thought Adam was a safe bet because he lives halfway across the country. But then suddenly he’s moving back to their town, and then into her apartment building, and soon he’s worming his way right into her life. If she’s not careful, he might sneak his way into her heart, too…

REVIEW

WOAH! Brighton Walsh sure knows how to bring steam to her pages and write some seriously swoony boys. I’ve been so impressed with her books in the past, so Paige in Progress was a must read for me, especially because I also DEMANDED a Paige and Adam book along with some other bloggers! She did an amazing job with this coupling and I just couldn’t get enough of them.

I’ve loved Paige since the moment we met her in the previous book, but I think I fell a little more in love with her here as I got to know her character so intimately. First, I love that she was a beautiful woman who knew exactly how beautiful she was. It can be a little annoying for us readers to read about pretty NA girls who don’t realize just how pretty they are until the love interest comes along. Anyways, I digress. Paige wasn’t just a pretty girl though, she was also super smart and worked really hard to reach her career goals. Seriously, this girl was so empowering. Add to that her lack of filter, she was one hilarious character. Of course, she wasn’t entirely perfect, like I’m making her sound – she had her insecurities and her grievances too.

More than I loved Paige, I loved Adam. Oh my goodness, you guys! I swooned so hard over this guy. Are you tired of all the manwhores who are wary of relationships is NA books? Then look no further because Adam was completely and wholeheartedly a relationship guy. Can I just gush on and on about how much I loved that? It was so refreshing to read from the POV of a guy who was all about commitment and who did not indulge in repeated one-night stands (not that there’s anything wrong with that)! Adam was going through his own crisis in Paige in Progress with him having relocated back to his home after his parents business suffered. He was at that point his life where he wasn’t sure what his priorities should be and I really connected with that.

Paige and Adam’s relationship started off with one heck of a steamy one-night stand and that really set up the tone of their relationship. These two had so much chemistry together! You could probably cook a meal with the heat they were giving off (LOL – I can’t believe I typed this!). What I loved most about them as a couple though was how they decided to be friends before the jumped into bed again. I loved the “dates” they planned for each other and I had fun watching them just be around each other. Their banter, their flirting and their companionship were really the highlight of the book for me. Of course, there’s always the separation that usually pops up towards the end of a book, but it wasn’t contrived and nor was it stretched out.

I was also thrilled to be reunited with the couples from the previous stories in the Reluctant Hearts series, especially Jase and Tessa! I loved the bromances between Adam, Jase and Cade. They were so funny and inappropriate together – they had me giggling a million times throughout the book! :) I loved the friendship between Tessa and Paige too and I love how they were so comfortable around each other that they weren’t afraid to be honest. I was definitely a little bit envious of their relationship! I want a friendship like that IRL. Besides the old characters, we were also introduced to a set of new characters, Paige’s brothers, and just to let you know how intrigued I was by them, I promptly tweeted Brighton Walsh and told her I needed their books too. Luckily for me, she’s writing an adult spin-off series for them!

Paige in Progress was entertaining, romantic and sexy from start to finish with a feisty heroine and a determined hero. If you enjoy your NA books on the lighter side when it comes to drama and on the heavier side when it comes to romance and steam, this book and this whole series are must-reads! Trust me, you won’t regret reading these.

Have you read any books in this series or by Brighton Walsh yet? What about a book about a guy who is all about commitment?

About Brighton Walsh

Brighton Walsh spent nearly a decade as a professional photographer before deciding to take her storytelling in a different direction and reconnect with her first love: writing. When she’s not pounding away at the keyboard, she’s probably either reading or shopping—maybe even both at once. She lives in the Midwest with her husband and two children, and, yes, she considers forty degrees to be hoodie weather. Her home is the setting for frequent dance parties, Lego battles, and more laughter than she thought possible.
Her debut novel, Caged in Winter, is available now from Berkley/Penguin. She is represented by Mandy Hubbard of D4EO Literary Agency.
